Building Social Communication

Skills in Young Children

Researchers are seeking families with toddlers between 15 and 24 months of age who are at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to participate in a multi-site project evaluating Hanen’s More than Words program. More than Words is a parent-training intervention designed specifically for parents of very young children with ASD in order to enhance social communication in children as well as overall parenting communication strategies.

To be eligible, toddlers must have had a parent or service provider express concerns about ASD. Families who are eligible will have a 50:50 chance of receiving the More than Words training program, which involves eight group sessions and three individual sessions with a Speech and Language Pathologist. All families will be given a summary of their child’s developmental and diagnostic functioning following the final assessment visit.

Participation will take place at the University of Miami, and all families will be compensated for their time. Please call a member of our team at (305) 284-1042 for more information about this project.
